8 Great Things You Can Do For a Sick Friend

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

If you have a sick friend it is nice if you can spare the time to look after them, do their shopping, babysit the kids or even pay to have the carpet cleaning done.  As well as bring gift baskets filled with their favourite goodies, just spending time with them is often helpful.

Cook Dinners

If you have a friend who has been home sick for a while it is a nice idea to make them some dinners that they can freeze and simply reheat when they need them.  When anyone is unwell the best thing they can do to build up their strength and help their immune system is to eat good healthy food but often when you are sick you can’t really find the energy.  Cooking them some meals is also greatly appreciated by someone who has a family.

Babysit

If your friend has children a great thing to do is to offer to babysit.  This way they can get some rest and try and get their strength back.  It is difficult when you are a mother and you get sick because often you can’t stop your usually daily tasks because you have to continue to look after the kids.  Take the pressure off and offer to watch them for a few hours.

Cleaning

It can make you feel even worse when you are sick if the housework starts getting out of hand.  Offer to go around for a few hours and tidy up, put away the children’s toys, do the dishes, put on a load of washing and run the vacuum around.

Shopping

It can be impossible to get out of the house when you are ill and if you friend doesn’t have a partner or they work late it can be hard to do the food shop.  Get them to write you a list of the things they need and go and do the food shopping for them.

Company

Something that sick people often appreciate more than anything is a bit of company, especially if they have been home sick for a while.

Gardening

It can help a great deal if you get out in their garden and do a bit of weeding, mow the lawn and tidy up.  It can give you a sense of helplessness when you can only stare out the window at the overgrown grass and having someone able to stay on top of it for you will put you in a much better mood.  If your friend is well enough to sit outside it will be much more pleasant if the garden is tidy.

Gifts

If you are visiting someone who is ill always go baring gifts, it will cheer them up no end.  A gift basket full of pampering products is a real treat for someone who is not feeling well or a gift hamper filled with all the favourite foods is nice too.

Entertainment

If your friend has been home sick for a while it is likely they are beginning to get bored.  Go around and hire some new release DVDs or take some magazines or books to read.

things you should know about fashion

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Discussing about fashion is the most exciting thing, chiefly for women. There will be a certain admiration for us if we wear or we look someone else wearing the perfect clothes that truly suit their body and reflect their personality. Of course, each person has their own sense of fashion. It will be reflected in their way and style of wearing clothes, whether going outside or at home. So, you need to Keep in mind that fashion sense is something that you can not simplify it as the same standard between people. Having different style is a usual thing, right?

The Fashion Style: Goth and Emo

In the present world of fashion, there is a popular trend among teenagers and kids called Goth or Emo. Some of you may not familiar with it. Emo refers to emotional; something that represents the teen angst and non-conformity. The characteristic of this style is torn fishnet stockings, the black clothes, and also black hair and makeup. Wanna try this fashion style? That will be unique anyway. However, other people do not feel convenient with this style. So, they can try a less dramatic style.

What about Preppy?

The next fashion style is called preppy. It is signed by the clean cut look that is popular among a lot of college age kids and some adults. It will symbolize that you care about your appearance and that you are meticulous with your clothes. Usually, the clothing is pressed, very neat and always clean.

enjoy shopping on milan

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

we’re know that shopping are such as nice activity especially to the women. a moment ago, i found nice articles about shopping and fashion in milan, you can read the complete articles below :

As anyone who has been fortunate enough to visit Milan will tell you, the city is not all fashion. There are several old and new stores worth the visit for those interested in classic menswear.

By reputation, the city’s three stand-out establishments for tradition and quality are Bardelli, Neglia and Tincati. However, each offers something quite different – as I discovered recently.

Neglia is the destination for Milanese men looking to the best in English and American imports. So the shoes are Church’s and Edward Green, the umbrellas and the bags from Brigg, the suits in the window from Ralph Lauren, and half of the ties from Drake’s. So while there are also top-class Italian names like Brioni and Kiton, and Neglia’s new and expanded own-label suits, the shop does not offer much to the international visitor that he can’t get elsewhere. The one exception is probably Incotex trousers – their cords pictured below.

M Bardelli is very different. One of the oldest men’s clothing establishments in Milan, it could safely claim to be the definition of Milanese style – classic, formal, with heavy English influences. Particularly prevalent (this season at least) are sports jackets in grey and brown checks and strongly striped shirts. As well as woollen ties in club stripes, which are ubiquitous for Autumn/Winter in Milan. While not necessarily inspirational, it is the base from which Milan can be understood.

Tincati is smaller, more refined and idiosyncractic. Very lightweight raincoats, woven belts and soft thin knitwear, it also has a dedicated area at the back from bespoke orders. Certainly worth a look.

Of more modern, quirky establishments, Al Bazar is the standout. Located outside the centre (a couple of streets from Bardelli), it is a treasure trove of items collected under the aesthetic of one man – Lino Leluzzi. More on Al Bazar on Permanent Style next week.

The greatest joy, however, is discovering less well-known shops. Like Piombo, just off the Golden Triangle, which had the most lovely unlined, washed cashmere green blazer (and one of their colour combinations is below). Or Rivolta, the old Milanese shoemaker that has recently relaunched with a model for making bespoke shoes purely off an electronic scan of your feet (a longer feature, again, is on Permanent Style). Larusmiani is also worth a look. It is an ultra luxurious menswear store on Via Montenapoleone that reminds me of Kiton before it grew. An old name in Milan, it is surrounded by fashion houses but retains a very particular character.

Anything else worth mentioning? The Etro sale store on Via Spartaco (50% of this season, 75% of the last); absolutely gorgeous and well-cut knits at Red and Blue, which looks more like it is called Fedeli (the brand of clothes sold); and Doriani for similar knitwear reasons. Oh, and go have lunch in the café at Corso Como (below), then wander around the shop inside – a great menagerie of brands.

It was also two days, but it feels like there’s so much more to tell.

London Shopping: From unique local shops to discounted branded items

Monday, September 7th, 2009

i found this interesting articles about shopping and copy it to you readers, just enjoy it…

In this increasingly globalized world, shopping for something unique has become harder: the jacket you spotted in a Budapest Zara shop will invariably pop up for sale in Senayan when you return from holidays to Jakarta, both labeled “Hecho en China”, or made in China.

The famous Oxford Street in London is no exception, bustling with shoppers carrying Marks & Spencer, FCUK, or Top Shop bags. Many of the shops in London can also be found in Jakarta and almost all the brands exist somewhere else in the world.

Yet, there are still some corners of London where the odd pieces of clothing can be purchased, with independent shops thriving with items crafted by young British designers. Brick Lane is one of those areas.

Spitalfields Market, walking distance from the Liverpool Street tube station, has two parts: A new market and an older one. (JP/Evi Mariani)

During my visit, sponsored by Air Asia X and Visit Britain, a group of Southeast Asian journalists including myself were taken to Brick Lane, also known as London’s curry capital or Banglatown for its Bangladeshi shops selling curry. The area has become the epicenter of the Bangladeshi community in London, with Bengali street signs planted next to English ones. (more…)

the delights of shopping in singapore

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

I really think shopping should be considered a sin. I have seen some of the expressions of the ladies I have bee out with and I would actually akin it to a ecstasy, a passionate feeling that they experience every time they enter a retail shop, spot a bargain, spy some shoes which look the same to any other guy or when they hear the familiar sound of a receipt being printed and the credit card company adding another line to their monthly bill. This is a feeling most of the guys in the world cannot understand and will never understand. When we have to pay, we feel pain, nausea and sometimes a need to find a dark hole to hide in as the bags seem to pile up and the pain in your arm gets more acute. This is why Singapore should be described as the secret heaven of all ladies who delight in retail. The delights of shopping in Singapore and her wealth of shopping centers and shopping directories that would make mapmakers of the globe shudder in fright are both legendary and on the tips of the lips of every traveler who comes to Singapore to experience this mad craze – crowned off by the great Singapore sale and other mini bargain seasons that seem to crop up just as pay day rolls by.

shopping, travel, and Living at Singapore

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

People have the impression that Singapore is all serious about business. This is partly true since the government and its people treasure business and development. And this is the reason why a number of economic infrastructures were put into place right after the city-state gained its independence from Federation of Malaysia. But it isn’t just in business that the city-state of Singapore is known for. The state is also known for travelling, for shopping and its culture and the arts.

eleven places you must see in bali

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

is possibly one of the most enchanting island on earth. One of more than 13.000 islands in Indonesia, and Bali is revered as one of the world’s most popular and interesting tourist destination.

Some quick facts: Bali covers an area of 5620 km2, about 140 km from West to East and 80 km from the South to North. The South part consists of lime stone with beautiful soft white sand along the beach, while the East, West and North are mostly volcanic layers with black soft sand beach.

Bali has a tropical climate with the average temperature of about 30 degrees C (80 degrees F) all year. It has only 2 seasons, dry season started from April to October and wet season from October to April. It is always nice and cool in the hillside while though hot around the coastal area but there are still nice breeze all the time. The dry season is always sunny with great view of sunset and sunrise, while the wet season is not too wet because there is still much sun to enjoy during the day time.

Here are eleven things one must see if you are in Bali.

  1. Barong Dance – This is approx. 1 hour long religious dance representing the eternal fight between the good – Barong and the evil symbolized by a horrible looking witch called Rangda. The costumes and set are elaborate and nice. The trick is to get there early, so that you get front seats and be close enough to see the facial expressions of the dancers

things you should see and do in bali

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

1) Beach & Surf
Bali is well known for its pristine white beaches and secluded coves, the most famous beaches being in Nusa Dua where long stretches of soft white sand will soothe and comfort the soles of your feet. Many hotels have their own private stretch of beach with a Beach club or restaurant along. Kuta and Uluwatu are areas in South Bali well known for their good surf which makes Bali one of the most popular surf destinations in the world.

2) Padi fields
The beautiful terraced green padi fields are another must see for a visitor to the island of Bali. Many tourists will automatically head to Ubud, about 45 minutes from Bali Airport to stay in a hotel and villa overlooking the padi fields. The best padi field scenery is at Jatih Luwih and Tegallalang which are not far from Ubud.

3) Galleries and Museums
Beautiful paintings can be found in Ubud, home of many of Bali’s well known and aspiring artists. The peaceful scenery and tranquility of the area must be an inspiration for the remarkably detailed paintings these artists create and whose works are displayed in the numerous art galleries and museums found in Ubud village. Some of the more well known galleries are The Agung Rai Museum of Art, Neka Museum, Antonio Blanco Renaissance Museum, Komaneka Gallery and Seniwati Gallery of Art by Women just to name a few.

4) Dance and Music
Dance and music plays a very important part of the life of a Balinese. Every ceremony and festival is almost always accompanied by traditional dance and the soothing sounds of the Gamelan. You will find many locations in and near Ubud where you can watch these dance performances. Dancers wear glittery and colourful costumes, executing to perfection elaborate hand movements and facial expressions to convey stories of the Ramanaya.  You can watch the elegant Legong Dance at the Ubud Palace in central Ubud, or see other entertaining performances such as the Warrior Dance and Kecak Dance at other locations within the town.  Wayang Kulit, or Shadow Play performances are also a common evening entertainment for the local Balinese and tourists alike.

5)  Yoga and Spa Treamtents
There is a growing number of world class spa facilities and health resorts in Bali especially in the Ubud area. Using natural herbs and indigenous products, you will have a wide variety of spa treatments to choose from and enjoy. Spa treatments are ideal for relaxation and what every person who needs a break from this fast paced world of work, family and stress will surely appreciate.  A variety of massages using traditional, Aryuvedic, Shiatsu and hot stones are on the menu for you to choose from. Traditional treatments such as Boreh and Lulur are common. Facials, foot massages, healthy meals and private spa facilities are also available at some hotels and salons. Holistic resorts offer yoga programs and have resident teachers who will guide you to peace of mind.

6) Festivals and Ceremonies
Religion plays a central role in the life of every Balinese family. The island has hundreds of temples, for which each and every one has a temple anniversary, known as Odalan. On this day, the villagers visit the temple for prayers and socializing. It can be considered a community event to bring the people together and promotes good feelings between villagers. With the Balinese Hindu religion comes many daily practices such as placing offerings such as trays of flowers called Canang Sari in temples, shrines and symbolic locations to ward off evil and please the Gods. Nyepi Day, which is the Balinese New Year is a day that is spent in silence in reflective prayer and meditation. The days before Nyepi however provide many opportunities for a tourist to witness ceremonies and rituals including the noisy and colourful Ogoh-Ogoh procession which happens one day before Nyepi, on Melasti Day. This procession is a colourful display of the creativity of the Balinese where towering papier mache ‘monsters’ are paraded through the town in noisy processions in efforts to chase away any evil.

Galungan is another major festival for the Balinese which at the end of 10 days is marked by Kuningan Day. This festival occurs every six months so you will have the opportunity to see it in another half year if you miss the first round. During this time you will see the Barong Dance procession which goes through the village performing in front of shops and houses as an act of purification. Cremations are another village affair where the entire family and friends of the deceased are involved. The body is carried from the home grounds through the village to the cremation site where it is place in a towering sarcophagus and burnt to the ground.

7) Sea Sports
Bali has some of the most colourful and interesting sea life you will ever see. Well known dive sites are located in Amed and Tulamben where there are ship wrecks, in Menjangan Island in the North West, and Pandang Bali and Lembongan Island in the East to name a few.  Nusa Dua and Sanur are ideal for snorkeling but there are many other areas as well.

8) Visit Active Volcanoes
Indonesia has hundreds of volcanoes and Bali has some of its own famous ones as well. Kintamani town is where you will see the 2800m high Mount Bali, a popular tourist destination in Bali. The volcano has a large caldera lake and it is possible to go on a sunrise hike to the top of Mount Batur if you can wake up early enough!  Mount Agung, the location of Bali’s largest and most sacred temple, Puri Besakih, is Bali’s highest and most sacred mountain at 3142m high. Pura Besakih, the Mother Temple is where Bali’s most important ceremonies are held and worth visiting if you have the opportunity to go on an East Bali tour especially in April when the temple has its anniversary.

9) Land Adventure Activities
Apart from the southern tourist towns, Bali is an island still very much in its natural state compared to other tourist destinations. You will soon realise that there are many locations that provide the ideal terrain for exciting adventure activities. Bali is not only Kuta and Nusa Dua. Travel north and you will find out what the real Bali has to offer – culture, spectacular scenery and experiences that modern tourist towns with shopping malls are totally devoid of.

The rivers, mountains and jungles are all places where you can experience Bali away from the tourist crowds. White water rafting down the scenic Ayung or down the heart stopping Telaga River rapids is one of the more popular activities for tourists who come to Bali. A mountain bike ride from Kintamani down to Ubud through the padi fields and small villages with friendly locals is another leisurely activity for families and individuals alike. Bali is home to the Taro Elephant Park, complete with accommodation, activities and elephant fun for all ages. You can ride an elephant through the jungle, marvel at their intelligence and let them make you laugh when you visit the Taro Elephant safari park in Bali. Quad driving will take you through the jungles and rougher terrain. Canyon tubing where you sit in a floating tube and coast down a river through the jungle is another fun activity. A new attraction, the Bali Safari and Marine Park is a unique blend of wildlife conservation and culture. You will be able to see wildlife in their natural surroundings and learn about the ancient Balinese culture at this tourist attraction.

10) Shop till you drop
Finally what the first thing tourists tend to do on any trip and most certainly to Bali is to shop. You have Kuta Center, Galeria Nusa Dua, Matahari in Legian and Ubud Market where you will find bargains of all sorts. The Balinese are well known for their creative and artistic skills evident in the numerous arts and crafts found throughout the island. Many craft factories are found in Tegallalang and the surrounding area. Skilled silversmiths in the village of Celuk, sell their creations in eclectic shops in Ubud but you will be able to buy their jewelry at slightly better prices.  Sukawati art market is where you will find many of the fabrics used in Balinese clothing as well as hand made crafts such as woven baskets at good prices. Crafts and statues are made from natural products found on Bali such as coconut wood, bamboo and volcanic sand stone.  Masks and puppets make interesting gift items. You will also find many unique home decor items such as table runners, lamp shades and wall decorations to give your home a touch of Bali style when you return.  Furniture items are often available at attractive prices compared to if you were to purchase them from outside of Bali.

So there you are, a list of many things you can do in Bali. Relax, get fit, have fun, gain new experiences and most of all, a memorable holiday. And if you count them up, you’ve got a lot more than 10 things to do there. This is by no means an exhaustive list but more than enough for a 3 to 7 day trip to this wonderful and magical island of the Gods.
