There are several different blogging platforms out there that you can use to host your blog but the two most popular platforms are the WordPress platform and the Blogger platform. These two blogging platforms are vastly different from one another and each has their own advantages and disadvantages should you choose to utilize one or the other.
Blogger Advantages and Disadvantages
Blogger is owned by Google and it’s safe to say that just about anything Google does it does well. Blogger is no exception to this and has long reigned supreme as the choice for beginners in the blogging area. Some of the benefits of using Blogger are:
- 1. It is extremely easy to use. Blogger has everything you need in a visually appealing and comprehensive dashboard so you don’t waste time having to learn any intricate steps.
- 2. You can easily make money from it. Because it’s owned by Google you can easily set up an Ad Sense account to earn revenue from your blog. You also are able to monetize the website with no backlash from Google or Blogger.
- 3. It’s simple to buy your domain. At a certain point most people are anxious to make the switch from a www.yourdomain.blogspot.com web address to a simple www.yourdomain.com web address. Blogger makes it easy to purchase the domain name and drop the “.blogspot” from your URL.
However there are always drawbacks and some of Blogger’s include:
- 1. Overload of users. Because it’s free and easy to use there are times when the Blogger server gets overwhelmed and all of the sites go down.
- 2. There is no true self-hosting. While you are able to purchase your URL you still don’t have a truly self-hosted website and you still have to adhere to the rules and regulations of the platform.
WordPress Advantages and Disadvantages
While Blogger may be to go-to choice for novice bloggers, WordPress has a highly respected reputation amongst veteran bloggers. Some of the advantages WordPress offers:
- 1. Two versions: free and self-hosted. WordPress has a WordPress.com site that offers a free blogging platform similar to the Blogger one and then also has a WordPress.org site that allows self-hosted blogs to use the WordPress platform.
- 2. Exceptional support provided. The WordPress community is vast and knowledgeable and always willing to help out if a user encounters a problem.
- 3. Easy to customize. There are plugins you can download for anything you could possibly want to do on your website; from maximizing SEO to ridding your site of spam, there really is no limit.
Like with Blogger, it’s not all high points though, and there are some disadvantages to choosing WordPress:
- 1. Not as easy to navigate as Blogger. Newbie bloggers can get frustrated trying to navigate around the WordPress website because it’s not as visually easy to understand as the Blogger platform.
- 2. You need to be a little tech-savvy to self-host. Getting your website set up and running with all the appropriate plugins can be a little tricky at times and requires some technical know-how, something that can be time-consuming and frustrating.
Depending on what it is you want to accomplish with your blog either platform could be a good fit. For bloggers who are blogging as a hobby Blogger stands out as an outstanding choice. But for those who are more serious about blogging for a business or as their job WordPress comes out on top. Which platform would you choose?

Link building is crucial for off-page SEO. Since backlinks count as votes, a blog with a lot of backlinks from sites with a high PageRank will give your blog a higher rank, too. However, building successful backlinks is not easy: even with high-ranking and reputable websites. Backlinks are created in one of two ways. The natural way, where you receive links because people like your site: or through a mutual agreement to exchange or buy and sell links. Research conducted by The Search Labs shows that natural links work best for search engines. With that information in mind, here are five mistakes to avoid while building backlinks.

(Courtesy of david anderson : da-photography)
1. Having Backlinks from Unrelated Niche Sites
Part of the reason backlinks are successful is that the sites that link to you are useful and relevant to your subject matter. If your blog is about car parts and repairs, and you have a niche site about football recommending your blog, this offers little to no benefit for improving your rank in search engines. Even if the site that is backlinking to you is popular and has a high rank in search engine results, if the topic of the site has no relevance to your site it is a useless source.
2. Links from Sites with Low PageRanks
This is a common mistake made by bloggers, and one that costs them dearly. Large numbers of low PageRank links are viewed as spam in search engines. Low ranking sites do not care about which sites they link to, and these types of links are easy to obtain. If a website has a PageRank of two, for example, but has over 1000 backlinks, your site will not be prominently showcased even if it relates to the linkback site’s content. The best solution to the problem of low ranking sites is to avoid them.
3. Not Looking for a NoFollow Attribute
A link with a noFollow attribute means that the website the link is on tells search engines not to follow the link. The Search Labs have determined that unfortunately this happens often in the world of backlinks and is one of the biggest errors a blogger can make. If you have backlinks to 100 websites, and each of those links are noFollow backlinks, the actual number of working backlinks you have is zero. There is no benefit whatsoever from having noFollow links, and it is critical that you check each link to see if each link building site is noFollow or doFollow.
4. Having Good Links with Useless Anchor Texts
Although it may seem like a great thing when a high-ranking website has a backlink to your blog, if the anchor text is made up of useless information like your name it isn’t actually a benefit. When a search engine crawls through the high-ranking website, it increases your search rank according to the keyword. If the keyword is something that doesn’t identify what you need a search engine to show, your blog is ranked by irrelevant information that people will not know how to search for.
5. Linking with Sites That Have a Bad Reputation
Your reputation is just as important online as it is in other areas of life. People want to feel that they can trust you when they visit your blog. If they see that you are backlinked to sites that have bad reputations or are considered untrustworthy, your own reputation will be severely damaged. Bad reputations sites are ones that engage in activities such as spam, illegal content, and auto blogging. Check each potential backlink site carefully before you allow a backlink.

The online method of searching out information is of different categories, ranging from websites, search engines, online shops etc. It should be noted without mincing words; it is obvious that people do not regularly go for detailed search for information on the web. It is normally a generalized link source that gives the most versatile view and information about things. Sequel to this it is normally to see people make open phrases for what they want to search. This makes the search engines the most used in the process of finding things in the internet. The search engines are therefore of different categories and functions as informed by its designs and methods of view. We have the SEO which means Search engine optimization and the PPC which means Pay per click ads.
Search Engine Optimization SEO;
This involves the process of designing and placing information about your company, products and services on some page that might or might not necessarily be a website and allowing it accessible through the search engines. This is done in conjunction with the search engines with some amount of money being given directly to each interest through web transactions. This is considerably cheap. It will need a search related to your information before it is shown.
Pay Per Click Ads PCC;
This involves some adverts about your website and services offered being displayed on the right or left side of the system screen. This is designed in such a way that the money for the advert is paid directly by clicks and view method. It gives particular and specific information and services about you and your firm. It costs more to view than the SEO and also costs more to maintain.
Which of these is Better;
The design, management, hosting and use of these two different search methods are relative in its advantages and disadvantages. The PPC which gets its own traffic by advertising, gets results faster than any other, if you are looking for a fast way of getting this information to the clients and make fast money, the PPC is definitely better for you, though the maintenance and management cots might be huge. The SEO is slow in its spread and income generation but one good advantage is that it gives more long term results than PPC and is cheaply done and managed. If there should be a crash of the two or when badly run, A PPC owner will definitely loose a whole lot of money compared to SEO. Meanwhile, the SEO easily resolves technical problems with the server and also helps to strengthen the brand strength more than the PPCs. the PPC needs more of intensive management because it is of a targeted audience while the SEO is open and easily accessible to all. The SEO increases conversion rate and web wide visibility more than the PPC. The bottom line is, if you are looking for something long term, try the SEOs, but if you need a short term solution to your business needs, the PPCS might be better for you.

If you’re just starting your blog then there is every probability you are looking for the best ways to get indexed and ranked well in the top search engines online (Yahoo included). The reality is that rankings bring traffic, and to get ranked you need to be indexed. There is no automatic way to get indexed into any search engine, but there are tips that always work. For example, the tip I will be sharing below worked well for my westhost and yahoo webhosting coupon blog, and it has also been proven to work with my others sites. Below, I’ll be sharing 3 steps you can take to get your blog indexed in Yahoo.

Submit Your Blog to Yahoo for Indexing
Try to search for your blog in the Yahoo Index to check if it isn’t indexed already before submitting it, because submitting your blog multiple times can cause problems for you. You can easily check if your blog is already indexed by visiting http://search.yahoo.com and by typing “site:yourblog.com” into the search box (of course without the quotes). If your website is displayed it means you have been indexed, if it hasn’t, you can easily submit it to Yahoo for inclusion.
Even though there is no guarantee that your website will be indexed if you submit it, you will be able to increase your chances of being indexed by doing so. (more…)

Social media and social media marketing are very effective tools for individuals and companies to impress the world. It doesn’t matter the size of your business, organisation, even family, social media works because it is communication in front of others, directed at others. It is the perfect place to share information, show off and make a statement to others, in front of others. That is what makes it social. There is something intrinsically valuable about popularity that cannot be touched except for what it generates. Money, cars, dinners, flights, tv and the lists goes on. Social media is a way that anyone can now be popular. On the other hand, there are some things you should not use social media for. The people that have, are finding that out fast.

-
Boast about crimes committed.
Bragging about a crime you have committed on Facebook will only result in one thing. You will get a visit from the police. There is no anonymity with social media. You can’t be a profile without having some real relationships for it to be effective. No-one will be interested. Brag about something you did that was illegal and wrong, and there will always be someone, perhaps someone who knows someone who knows you, who will decide this is their chance to be righteous. It might just be someone who wants to bring you down. Warning: Bragging about crimes on social media is a stupid idea.
-
Being secretly flirtatious and erotic.
As Weiner just found out, sending erotic pictures, or attempting to be erotic, especially to a minor, does not go down to well if someone wants to use it against you. Social media leaves a very clear and detailed trail. Now, we all know a 17 year-old girl could be as mature as any woman. Many of them can look like they are 23, and there is no real harm from sending a photo of yourself in underwear, but when you have a career and a job, you don’t even need to be a congressman in the USA, to find yourself in hot water when that social communication trail comes out. It is not just the fact you risk jeopardising your freedom and financial future, the level of shame resulting is beyond imaginable. Warning: Using Facebook and social media to flirt could destroy your right to freedom, career and marriage.
-
Inflate Your Career Achievements and History.
We used to take care with our CV. Then we were advised to create a CV depending on the position or career goal, we were using it to achieve. I know so many people who have used completely bogus credentials and work histories, especially as working expatriates (Beijing and Shanghai are a hotspot for them), to get the job they are in. Beefing up your social media profiles with a bogus career history and infatuated credentials will eventually result in someone bursting your deceptive bubble. If you are lying and have pulled off the deception to be in the work related position you are in, it is advised you don’t rock your own boat. Warning: Continuing your career and credential fraud on Facebook and social media after you have deceived your current employer is extremely risky.
-
Organising or discussing a terrorist or illegal act.
Everything is recorded on any tool we use to communicate via the internet. Using your Facebook profile to discuss with others your next transaction of smuggled and stolen cars, or plan your next bank fraud strategy is not a good idea. Your chats are being recorded, and that means they are being scanned for words and indicators of behaviour. The company does not get that big without supporting the government and law enforcement agencies with information and tip-offs behind closed doors.
It is important to remember that because of the nature and the way we communicate today, online marketing can backfire if you are really stupid. While this article is a sarcastic look at this situation, there are many lessons individuals, especially professionals, managers and owners of business can learn from it. Social media, Facebook and other online tools are very serious technology. We cannot afford to use them with disregard of the potential implications.

You don’t have to be in the business ofonline marketing and SEO, to know the importance of social networking and online personal and professional profiles. Presenting a standard CV is certainly not going to get the message across. If you really want to impress prospective employers or clients, you need to boost your online image. Showing them your wares, is no more than sending a URL. In this article, we look at a strategy to making your online personality really pop.
- Have A Central Webpage. Sites like Wix and Webs are online website builders that are perfect for building a personal website. They automatically includesearch engine optimizationfeatures so your profile can be found easily. They include a great interface that makes it easy to upload and change the content at anytime. If you can use Microsoft Word, you can make a website with these types of website builders. They are free, unless you want to remove Google adverts. Make sure you include buttons so anyone can click through to your Facebook, professional profiles and your blog.
- Blog. A WordPressblog is an excellent way to show your prospective employer or client you really know what you are talking about. With ample articles, you have built up over time, you will never need a cover letter to try and prove you have the knowledge and experience. By writing a piece each week on issues you see in your professional career, you will have built up a large amount of serious content in no time. As long as your blog has previous and recent posts, it will always be extremely relevant.
- Social Media Profiles.Social media profiles are a great way to show different sides of your personality. You should let others know this from your initial home page. Facebook is a great look at you and your interests. This can be a mix of personal and professional. LinkedIn, for example, is a great demonstration of your professional relationships. Your whole personality is often important for a decision maker. Appear healthy, fun and friendly. Make sure you know a little about taking good photos, and make sure you always upload in HD. Edit your photos with simple photo-editing software to keep you looking good.
- Video. If you really want someone to get to know you, video is an excellent solution. Videos should always be relevant. By this we mean, if you are in Accounting, for example, you should present your video in a manner that matches your industry. If you are work in a creative agency, your video might look like an advert of yourself. Simple video editing tools that come with the major operating systems allow you to make a very good quality piece. Always invest in a little study of what it takes to shoot a good video. Personal video CVs need to be of a higher quality than just a simple YouTube video. A good HD camera, some good lighting, and you are more than half way there. A little make-up will probably also help.
- Reputation Management. Now that you have made sure your online personality is being viewed, it is more important than ever you manage your online profile and image. Google Alerts, for example, is an excellent way to see whenever your name appears online somewhere. There is a range of simple and free programs, through to paying professional agencies, to make sure there is nothing bad or damaging about you on the web.
