Indonesia’s Giant Military Force In 1960

Saturday, October 16th, 2010
The 1960s, President Sukarno Era.Indonesia’s military strength is one of the main, the largest, and strongest in the world. At that time, even the Dutch forces were not comparable to Indonesia, and the United States was very concerned with the development of our military forces that was heavily supported by the latest technology of the Soviet Union.

Indonesia's Giant Military Force In 1960

In 1960, the Dutch were still entrenched in Papua. Seeing the power of the Republic of Indonesia became more powerful, Western-backed Dutch deceptionally designed to establish a puppet state that seemed to be independent, but still under the Dutch control.

President Sukarno immediately took extreme action, in purpose of Papua recapture. Sukarno immediately issued a decree “Trikora”; in Yogyakarta, and the contents were:
1. To prevent the formation of a puppet state of Papua, made by the Dutch colonial.
2. To raise the Sang Saka Merah Putih (The Red-and-White Indonesian flag) in the Papua (West Irian at that time).
3. To be prepared for a general mobilization, maintaining independence and unity of the nation’s homeland. (more…)

indonesia made jet fighter with south korea

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

Indonesia and South Korea are ready to begin a joint project on jet fighter production in 2012.  The project would be able to build a jet figther prototype in 2020. The planned cooperation for the project, dubbed the KF-X project, was initiated in 2006. The joint project is widely seen as a pilot project for Indonesian military in revitalising defense industry. Officials say the KF-X would have capabilities  between those of the F-35 and F-16, although they are presumably referring to its size and thrust, since a stealth aircraft fielded in 2020 would be expected to comfortably outperform 1970s-era designs. Indonesia and Korea will produce as many as 200 fighter jets for both Air Forces.

Beware Of 2012 !

indonesia made an attack jet

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

In terms of mastering aviation technology, Indonesia has long been known as the only country in Southeast Asia to produce and develop its own aircrafts. However, in terms of marketing its home-made aircraft, we have to admit that we are lagging behind Brazil, who develops EMBRAER and markets it worldwide.

The First Indonesia-Made Attack Jet?

These recent years, however, some countries had turned their head to Indonesia’s aircraft products, namely Malaysia, Pakistan, UAE, Philippines, and South Korea, and some other. CN-235 (pictured below) is likely to hit broader market in years to come as now more people become aware of its reliability. Malaysia will add another four in addition to its existing CN-235 in its airforce fleet (source).

You must be wondering, with all this capacity and technology, why hasn’t Indonesia developed a jet fighter?

Well, according to one reliable source, Indonesia will soon develop its own jet fighter with South Korea. Here’s the points :

1. Initial cost will be $8 billion, and is likely to be funded jointly by both countries

2. It is A T-50 Golden Eagle jet fighter, and according to Indonesia’s Aircraft Industri (PT DI), Indonesia has all capacity to do the development as well as production.

3. The production is likely to be started this year, or next year at latest.

Malaysia to order CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft from Indonesia

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Malaysia is planning to sign a letter of intent in April for four Indonesian Aerospace CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft.

Air force officials, including chief of staff Rodzali bin Daud, have been negotiating with Indonesia’s state-owned aircraft-maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia for the purchase, say industry sources.

The two sides hope to sign a letter of intent at the Defence Services Asia show in Kuala Lumpur in late April, they add.

Malaysia needs maritime patrol aircraft because its air force has been relying largely on four Beechcraft Super King Airs that it received in 1994. One of these was recently upgraded with a Thales radar and a second is to undergo the same work in the coming months.

The air force wants the CN-235MPAs to widen its operations and improve payload performance, say industry sources. The service already operates CN-235 transports, so Indonesia’s offering provides some fleet commonality.

Malaysia has considered other types, such as a version of the Fokker 50. Fokker Services Asia had pushed the model as a cheaper alternative, and made a proposal to have some commercial Fokker 50s recently phased out by Malaysia Airlines converted for the maritime patrol mission by national maintenance, repair and overhaul firm Airod. Malaysian government investment firm Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad owns the retired aircraft.

More Iron Birds above Indonesia

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Russia will deliver the last of six contracted Su fighter jets to Indonesia on September 7 and 16, an informed source said on Monday.

More Iron Birds above Indonesia

Under a $300 million contract, signed in 2007, Russia is to complete the delivery of three Su-30MK2 and three Su-27SKM fighters to Jakarta by the end of 2010 in addition to two Su-27SK and two Su-30MK fighters purchased in 2003.

SU-30 Indonesian Air Force

The third Su-30MK2 jet was delivered in January.

Russia’s An-124 transport plane will deliver two Su-27SKM planes to the air base in the city of Makassar in Indonesia’s South Sulawesi province on Tuesday, the source said. The other Su-27SKM plane will be delivered to the same base five days later.

SU 27 Indonesian Air Force

The planes will be sent to Indonesia earlier than scheduled following a request by the Indonesian military authorities, who would like the aircraft to take part in a military parade dedicated to Armed Forces Day on October 5, he added.

Indonesia earlier said it needed at least one squadron equipped with 16 Sukhoi fighters to replace part of the outdated fleet of U.S. F-16 fighters.

Indoensia, A Country with Extraordinary Taxis

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Conventional, Traditional, and Conditional Taxis.

There are different kinds of taxis in Indonesia, those taxis operate in all areas of the country, ranging from big cities up to villages. In general taxis in Indonesia can be divided into three groups: Conventional, Traditional, and Conditional taxis.

Conventional taxi :

I call it a conventional taxi, also known taxicab, because this is the most common type of taxi that most people, even people all around the word, are familiar with, this taxi is a car with a driver whom you pay to take you somewhere. Conventional taxis operate mainly in big cities and the fare/tarif is based on the distance or length of time people use their service. Some taxi companies charge their passengers more expensive fares due to their better services, like offering more interior comfort and using more luxurious cars (premium taxi).

Traditional Taxis

Besides conventional taxi, some unconventional taxis also operate in Indonesia and they have become unique icons of this country too. I’d rather call these taxis as traditional taxis, they include Motorcycle, Becak and Becak Motor (Pedicabs), bicycle, Bajaj or Kancil, Carriages, River, up to Umbrella Taxis.

1. Motorcycle taxi :

Motorcycle taxi, locally called Ojek, is actually unofficial taxi driven by a driver with whom you negotiate for the fare before you agree to use his service. The negotiable fare is basically determined by the distance of your destination, for short to medium distance of around 5 km it costs about 5000 rupiahs (+/- 0.5 dollar) . Motorcycle taxi can be found in many cities in western java and anywhere in Jakarta city, it looks just like other common motorcycles, you’ll notice whether it is a motorcycle taxi or not when the driver signals an offer (normally by giving upward index finger or yelling “Ojek ?” ), and, off course they’re always noticeable on standby at corners of intersections who mostly wear jackets.

Using motorcycle taxi offers some advantages too. An experienced Ojek driver can maneuver briskly in congested street so that you can reach your destination faster than if you take a conventional taxi. As an alternative transport in coping with traffic jam in a big city like Jakarta, motorcycle taxi or ojek is reliable even some ministers sometimes have to ride it if their cars could move nowhere but stuck in traffic congestion. In term of cost the negotiable fare is worth bargaining since it can make a lot of difference compared to conventional taxi fare.

2. B a j a j.

Bajaj is a three-wheeled vehicle which is named after its manufacturer in India. This kind of transport began to operate in Jakarta city to replace another three wheeled-pedicab . Bajaj is also driven by a driver and allowed to operate only at the outskirts of Jakarta city. It’s easily recognized due to its color predominantly orange, noisy, emits a lot of smokes , and very shaky . Because of the last reason too riding bajaj is not recommended for pregnant woman. Bajaj fare is also negotiable, short to midium distance may cost around 10,000 rupiahs (around 1 US$).

4. Becak – Pedicabs.

Pedicabs in Indonesia can be found in two kinds, first man-powered pedicab or locally called Becak, and motorized pedicab.or known as Becak Motor.

Becak is an old mode of transport in this country. In many cities in Indonesia becak has so many “big fans” because of some reasons: the fare is very economical (3000 to 5000 rupiahs for medium distance), environmental friendly, source of income for thousand of people, and people ride it because of sentimental reasons too when they want to date back to the old days in their lives. But in unfriendly city like Jakarta, becak has been banned and shifted its operation to suburban areas of the city especially at housing complexes. Thousand of becaks had been dumped into Jakarta seas to be made breeding places for fish and clams.
