The Bali royal families, foreign dignitaries and thousands of residents of Peliatan and Ubud flocked to Peliatan Palace to witness the grand cremation of the late King of Peliatan IX, Ida Dewa Agung Peliatan, on Tuesday.

Prior to the grand palebon agung — a cremation ritual for members of the Bali royal families — Peliatan’s royal family and nobility paid their last respects to the late King, who died from diabetes last August.
Hindu High Priest Ida Pedanda Lingsir Padang Tegal, who presided over the religious ritual, fired a sacred arrow into a 6-meter-tall dragon-shaped bridge called naga banda in a symbol of destroying the earthly desires that tormented the late king, and thus releasing his soul from the temptations of the material world.

CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING
Culture or culture is the whole idea and the object made or created by humans in the development of history. Ruth Benedict saw the culture as a way of thinking and doing that seen in the lives of a group of people and that distinguishes it from other groups. Experts generally agree that culture is the behavior and human adjustment based on the things learned / learning behavior (Sajidiman, in “Culture-Cultural Liberation We”; 1999).

Cultures vary in nature, but because it is the fruit of adab (magnanimity), then all cultures should always be orderly, beautiful wholesome, noble, giving a sense of peaceful, happy, happy, and so on. Nature of culture becomes a sign and size of the low-high refinement of each nation (Dewantara; 1994).
Culture can be divided into 3 kinds of views of the situation-type type:
* Living-human inwardness, which is the cause in order to live peacefully with the indigenous community-istiadatnya smooth and beautiful, peaceful orderly government of the country; orderly peaceful religion or mysticism and morality.
* The human imagination, which can lead to the sublime language, literature and ethics.
* Skill humans, which led to the kinds of intelligence about the company’s land, commerce, crafts, cruises, traffic connections, art manifold; everything is beautiful (Dewantara; 1994).
Ki Hajar Dewantara defines culture as a victory or a result of the struggle for life, the struggle against the powerful forces 2 and eternal, nature and age. Culture has never had a lasting form, but continually alternating nature and age. (Dewantara; 1994).
NATIONAL CULTURE
Indonesian National Culture is all the peaks and the cultural essence of value in the entire archipelago, both old and new creation, the national spirit (Dewantara; 1994).
Indonesian National Culture essentially consists of all the cultures included in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. Without culture there is no National Culture. That does not mean simply the sum of National Culture all local cultures across the nation. National culture is a reality, because of national unity is a reality. National culture will be established if on the one hand cultures native archipelago remained steady, and on the other hand national life can be lived as meaningful by all Indonesian citizens (Suseno; 1992).
In Article 32 UUD 1945 stated, “Culture is the culture that arise as a fruit of mind-power effort entire Indonesian people. Old culture and contained the original as cultural peaks in the regions throughout Indonesia, calculated as the Nation of Culture. Business culture to progress towards manners, culture and unity, by not refusing new material from a foreign culture that can widen or enrich their own national culture, and the heightens the degree of humanity of Indonesia “(Atmadja, in” Culture-Cultural Liberation We; 1999). Philosophy of Batik for Indonesian

Batik is not only used as fashion, but has philosophy for Indonesian daily life. Indonesians always wear Batik when they are born until death. Indonesian mothers always carry on their baby using Batik for lullaby their baby, so that the baby feel comfortable. The baby feel tender and smooth because Batik is made from Mori cloth. The processed of making Batik will take three months at least, even few highest Batik quality will take long time to process.

The Government as motivator and facilitator of Batik, give and support capital stimulant and find market for Batik, even few Regencies and Municipalities make policy to wear Batik for local government employers. Few popular designers create Batik more fashionable so that the young people are not ashamed and look trendy to wear it. The efforts that have been doing by stake holders and Government, improve Batik popularity and price higher than before. The fashionable Batik motivates Batik entrepreneurs to find niche market and find strategies to market Batik, include marketing on the net.

wayang kulit
wayang is a shadow puppet played by the master of the puppet called dalang. it is usually play during night, all night a long.
i didn’t know much about wayang and its history, but i will try to search through wikipedia
here the description :
Wayang kulit, shadow puppets prevalent in Java and Bali in Indonesia, are without a doubt the best known of the Indonesian wayang. Kulit means skin, and refers to the leather construction of the puppets that are carefully chiseled with very fine tools and supported with carefully shaped buffalo horn handles and control rods.
The stories are usually drawn from the Ramayana, the Mahabharata or the Serat Menak. The island of Lombok has developed its own style of Serat Menak called “kazangiloonga”.
There is a family of characters in Javanese wayang called Punakawan; they are sometimes referred to as “clown-servants” because they normally are associated with the story’s hero, and provide humorous and philosophical interludes. Semar is the father of Gareng (oldest son), Petruk, and Bagong (youngest son). These characters did not originate in the Hindu epics, but were added later, possibly to introduce mystical aspects of Islam into the Hindu-Javanese stories. They provide something akin to a political cabaret, dealing with gossip and contemporary affairs.
The puppets figures themselves vary from place to place. In Central Java the city of Surakarta (Solo) is most famous and is the most commonly imitated style of puppets. Regional styles of shadow puppets can also be found in West Java, Banyumas, Cirebon, Semarang, and East Java. Bali produces more compact and naturalistic figures, and Lombok has figures representing real people. Often modern-world objects as bicycles, automobiles, airplanes and ships will be added for comic effect, but for the most part the traditional puppet designs have changed little in the last 300 years.
Historically, the performance consisted of shadows cast on a cotton screen and an oil lamp. Today, the source of light used in wayang performance in Java is most often a halogen electric light. Some modern forms of wayang such as Wayang Sandosa created in the Art Academy at Surakarta (STSI) has employed spotlights, colored lights and other innovations.
The handwork involved in making a wayang kulit figure that is suitable for a performance takes several weeks, with the artists working together in groups. They start from master models (typically on paper) which are traced out onto kulit (skin or parchment), providing the figures with an outline and with indications of any holes that will need to be cut (such as for the mouth or eyes). The figures are then smoothed, usually with a glass bottle, and primed. The structure is inspected and eventually the details are worked through. A further smoothing follows before individual painting, which is undertaken by yet another craftsman. Finally, the movable parts (upper arms, lower arms with hands and the associated sticks for manipulation) mounted on the body, which has a central staff by which it is held. A crew makes up to ten figures at a time, typically completing that number over the course of a week.
The painting of less expensive puppets is handled expediently with a spray technique, using templates, and with a different person handling each color. Less expensive puppets, often sold to children during performances, are sometimes made on cardboard instead of leather.
ok, i took it from wikipedia, hope it can help you to find litterature about wayang kulit or shadow puppet.
