Two giant telecommunication operators, Telkomsel and Excelcomindo, said they will follow the instruction of Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring to stop providing their services to Research In Motion (RIM) until the blackberry producer blocks porn content.
“It is ok, but if the telecommunication consumers get upset, do not blame the operators,” Excelcomindo Axiata president director Hasnul Suhaimi said over the weekend, as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.
The government must inform the public about the porn content issue before closing the RIM network, Hasnul said
Excelcomindo has 650,000 BlackBerry users.
Telkomsel president director Sarwoto Atmosutarno admitted that closing the RIM network will affect its consumers, but the impact would not be significant.
Telkomsel has 960,000 BlackBerry subscribers.
Minister Tifatul Sembiring set a two-week deadline on Friday for the RIM Indonesia representative to block pornographic websites, otherwise its server would be shut down by the government.
Indonesia has some 1.5 million BlackBerry users, or around 7.1 percent of 21 million smartphones users nationwide.

The BlackBerry Storm 2 is the new and improved BlackBerry Storm that has made a major impact on users even though the changes are minor. It is still the same 112 x 62 x 14mm; however the buttons have been upgraded to touch screen buttons and the battery lid and joints have been smoothed to make it more user-friendly. An obvious change is the absence of the “physically moving” screen which has been replaced by an innovative button that displays your choice by using the advanced software technology.
The producers, RIM, kept the SurePress techniques of double-pressing a button to register your choice even though they did away with buttons. There is no change to the screen which remains a 3.25 inch size with 480 x 320 pixel resolution. Even though the changes are minor, the Storm 2 is obviously an improvement on the older model and brings the device on par with their competitors. Much thought was put into making it user-friendly and an ideal business partner for the individual who likes to be current and up-to-date with modern technology
