Japanese studio 403architecture laid the patchwork floor of this bedroom using timber stripped from the ceiling.

The offcuts vary in colour and size, and are arranged at random to create a subtly bumpy surface.

Unlike the other rooms of the Hamamatsu apartment, the bedroom’s floor is not varnished, but simply sanded smooth.

The ceiling above remains unfinished, with ducts and electrical cables left exposed.

This is the second project by 403architecture that we’ve featured recently

Photography is by Kenta Hasegawa.

The text below is from 403architecture:
The Floor of Atsumi

This project is for the floor in Hamamatsu, Japan.

The client who are young couple asked us to repair the bedroom which is in the timeworn apartment house located in the central city area. This plan was advanced while linking the repair of the different rooms performed at the same time.

The ceiling was dismantled to secure enough hight with fanctional converting kitchen into walk-in closet and others. Because we got a enough amount of “scrap wood”, we decide to make a new floor by that was ceilings. We cut various sectional woods finely and spread it all over the floor as a substitute for a tatami mat. Each woods varied in colors across the ages, but all surface is cutting plane. That means this floor is old at the same time new. There are errors of cutting precision and human sole can feel negligible skew of 3D curved surface which was ground smooth by the disc sander. This floor is hard to happen warpage and breaking and it is superior in noise barrier performance.

In this project, we connected destruction and construction directly, by falling the ceiling to the floor.

Lucky are those who already have their own homes because they can consider them as investments. No matter how old the home is, there is always an option and an opportunity to make the home as good as new. This can be done by introducing changes in the home design or in the home facade or color.
Some people renovate their homes because they have lived there for several years already and they have gone tired of the look of their homes. Of course, there are people who renovate their homes with the view of reselling them at higher prices.

The residence was designed by architect Christopher Polly. It was located in the Newtown neighborhood in Sydney, Australia, on a small lot of 115 square meters. Casa Haines was a modern semi-detached dwelling based on a complete renovation of a single story family house. The house design was a long and narrow living space. It comprised everything needed for a single family. There were a bedroom, bathroom, an open floor kitchen and dining area, a small study room, a laundry room and an outside deck leading to a beautiful garden.

The structure of the minimalist house gave a natural ventilation system, while the small but necessary garden warranted frisk air, fresh thoughts and relaxation. The modern house was presented by Plataforma Arquitectura as being a place with all the elements aligned in one continuous space wrapped around the rear interior volume. A narrow passage connected the old part of the house to the newly added kitchen. It also served like a passage from the slightly raised front part of the house to the lowered back. Natural light for the dining room was assured by having a slightly slanted roof, living room and kitchen with the help of strategically placed windows. The roof continued over the deck into the garden, which sized 58 square meters. Take a look at the pictures below and then help us figure out if there is enough space available for a comfortable living situation. (more…)

The Museum of Islamic Art is a museum located in the Qatari capital Doha and designed by architect I. M. Pei.
The museum draws much influence from ancient Islamic architecture yet has a unique design. It was the first of its kind in the Persian Gulf and has a very large collection of Islamic art, plus a study, a library, and several restaurants. Sabiha Al Khemir served as the founding director of the museum from 2006-2008. The museum has a total area of 45,000 m2 and lies on the edge of Doha harbour at the south end of Doha Bay. Construction by Baytur Constr.Co. (Turkey), of the structure reached completion in 2006, but the interior was subjected to a variety of changes thereafter. The museum celebrated its VIP opening on November 22, 2008, and opened to the general public on December 1, 2008.
In the museum are displayed a collection of works gathered over the last 20 years, including manuscripts, textiles and ceramics. It is one of the world’s most complete collections of Islamic artifacts, ranging from Spain to Egypt to Iran, Iraq, Turkey, India and Central Asia. At the age of 91, Pei had to be coaxed out of retirement to undertake this enterprise. He traveled throughout the Muslim world on a six month quest to learn about Muslim architecture and history and read Muslim texts to draw inspiration for his design.
Declining all the proposed sites for the museum, Pei suggested a stand alone island for the structure to avoid the encroachment of other buildings. Thus it was built on 64 acres on an island approximate 195 feet off Doha’s Corniche and surrounded by a park. (more…)

The house called “The Klein Bottle House” which is designed by Rob Mcbride Aurstralia got a great set up in irregular shapes or for ane’s “crib” Stealth aircraft form the boxes.
Own design inspiration just because the designers want to change a paradigm that a house should have a regular shape and hence creates a strange house, cool isn’t it?
here the picture :
