JAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesian police on Wednesday refuted speculation its officers were ordered to buy up thousands of copies of a magazine featuring a story about alleged police corruption, saying its disappearance could be a publicity stunt.

The June edition of Tempo magazine, which is famous for its investigative journalism, features a cover story titled “The fat bank accounts of police officers”, accompanied by a drawing of a policeman leading three pig-shaped money boxes on leashes. (more…)

BOSTON — Bullets, drugs, gangsters. The news out of Mexico has been a steady stream of violence since President Felipe Calderon began his war on the drug cartels. Several hundred Mexicans have died in the last few weeks alone — adding to the toll of nearly 23,000 drug-related deaths since 2006.

Beyond the warring gangs and struggle for drug-trafficking routes, here are five things about Mexico’s drug war that may surprise you.
1. It’s called gangster chic
With the police cracking down on drug lords, all the confiscated loot has to go somewhere. Where? A Mexico City museum. The treasures on display include machinery confiscated from clandestine labs, high-tech spyware, gold-plated guns and diamond-encrusted pistols. President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono become the one of 100 most influential figures in 2009 made by Time magazine. According to the magazine’s official site, President Yudhoyono included to the category of “Leaders & Revolutionaries”.
Time Magazine also show opinion from Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia former deputy prime minister who is now an opposition leader in Malaysia. According to Anwar, “since his winning in the first direct election in 2004, Yudhoyono has managed to keep the nation afloat, even during the current global recession. However, significant challenges lie ahead. Poverty remains pervasive in Indonesia, and the government must press onward with improvements to the country’s ailing infrastructure. Businesses are confronted with a bewildering array of regulations, and the country pays a heavy price in corruption and bribery”. (more…)

One of the biggest Indonesia’s cellular services operator, PT Indosat Tbk states that PALAPA-D satellite was successfully placed in the normal position of its Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO), after launched on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 17:28 pm Xichang time, or 16:28 pm western Indonesia time.

A geosynchronous transfer orbit or geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) is an intermediate orbit used to reach geosynchronous or geostationary orbit. It is a highly elliptical earth orbit with apogee at about 35,700 km, geostationary (GEO) altitude, and an argument of perigee such that apogee occurs on or near the equator. (more…)

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono delivers 40 units panser 6×6 Pindad to Commander of Indonesia Armed Forces / Panglima TNI in Hanggar CN 235 PT Dirgantara Indonesia, Bandung, Friday (10 / 7) morning.

The Pindad Panser Anoa APS (Angkut Personel Sedang) is a 6 x 6 armoured personnel carrier developed by Indonesia. The APS is named after the Anoa, which is a type of buffalo indigenous to Indonesia. The prototype Panser was first unveiled at the 61st anniversary of TNI on October 5, 2006 in TNI HQ at Cilangkap, south of capital Jakarta. It bears a resemblance to the French VAB.
Entourage of Head of State departs from private residence at Puri Cikeas Indah around 06.30, with cars, through a distance of 148 km. President Yudhoyono arrived in the central building management PT Dirgantara Indonesia around 08.30 and welcomed by West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan.
Arriving at PT Dirgantara Indonesia, the President led the limited meeting for 1.5 hours. After symbolically submitted the 40 units panser 6×6 Pindad attended by the Minister of Defense Juwono Sudarsono, the President then do the review. Group of Head of State is scheduled to return to Cikeas at around 13:45 after Friday prayers.

The Pindad Panser had been officially unveiled to the public at the Indo Defence & Aerospace 2008 exhibition on November 19, 2008 to November 22, 2008 after being shown in a TNI parade on October 5, 2008. As of August 30, 2008, 10 Pindad Pansers have been produced with the plan of having 150 Pansers to be produced for the Indonesian Army in time for their first deployment in 2009.

South Korea’s Asiana Airlines has been named the airline of the year at the annual World Airline Awards. Qantas lost another spot in the 2010 awards announced last night in Hamburg, Germany, dropping to seventh place down from sixth last year. In 2008, it was rated the world’s third best airline.

The annual awards by Skytrax are based on surveys with more than 17 million passengers, carried out over 10 months. Passengers rate airlines on customer service, comfort of seating, quality of food, lounges and cabin crew.

Apple is on track to become the number one smartphone maker in Australia this year, analysts say. Nokia has long dominated the smartphone market but in just three years since the iPhone launched, Apple has rocketed up the charts into the number two slot in Australia. Its growth rate far surpasses any other manufacturer, IDC telecommunications analyst Mark Novosel said.

Novosel is in the process of compiling smartphone sales figures for the first quarter of this year and while his final report has yet to be released, the preliminary figures are sure to cause consternation at Nokia.
“The iPhone is continuing to experience extremely strong demand in Australia, with 2009 shipments growing by more than 230 per cent year on year,” Novosel said.

Albinism is due to various gene mutations that affect the production of normal pigmentation. True (amelanistic) albinos lack melanin and are white with no markings and with unpigmented pink eyes. Partial (blue-eyed) albinos have some residual pigmentation. There are various degrees of patchy albinism (piebaldism) due to localised mutations in skin cells. Temperature dependent albinos have residual colour on cooler parts of the body i.e. Siamese cats where pigment develops on the head, tail and legs, but not on the warmer parts of the body.
