Home security is something that we all need to take seriously. For example: how many expensive things do you have in your house? I bet it’s a fair few. And how many entrances do you have to your house? I’ll bet you only counted the doors. Well, what you need to do is take in to account every single window in your house, because burglars will take any route necessary. Frightening, right? Well here are some tips to help you improve your home security courtesy of DP Locksmiths Derby (www.dplocksmiths.co.uk)

Upgrade all of your locks

In the UK we have specifically developed a standard to ensure that the general public is aware of the highest quality locks on the general market. This standard is known as the kite mark and here’s what Wikipedia has to say:

The Kitemark is a UK product and service quality certification mark which is owned and operated by The British Standards Institution (BSI Group).

The Kitemark is most frequently used to identify products where safety is paramount, such as crash helmets, smoke alarms and flood defences. In recent years the Kitemark has also been applied to a range of services, such as electrical installations; car servicing and accident repair; and window installations.

Prevention is better than cure. Stop showing off what you’ve got! Keep valuables out of view as much as possible and close curtains and blinds whenever you’re out of the room or house. Leaving your house on show like a showroom is never a good look. Except for thieves. They’ll be able to see what you own, where you keep it and be able to make a quick grab if they choose to burgle your home.

As Derby Locksmiths, we can’t stress the importance of keeping your home locked up. A thief will find that one window that you leave unlocked and will take advantage of it as their way in. Lock and check every sing door and window before you leave the house and at night, too.
