5 Hot Jewelry Trends to Get You Sprung for Spring
In 2011, jewelry tended to be all about the big, bold, and beautiful. A lot of the pieces seen on runways were chunky, bright, and colourful. 2012’s trends are leaning towards the classics, with a focus on sustainability, recycling, and rawness. Here are only a few of the trends we saw on the Spring/Summer collections:
- Chandelier earrings seem to be making a comeback, but not in the decadent, ultra-luxurious manner of old. New, modestly sized styles on the popular shape were seen on the models for LAGOS and John Hardy.
- Who says you can’t buy hair bling? Barrettes, hair bands, brooches, pins and tiaras are looking to be a real hit this season, especially among the younger, hipper clientele chucking tradition for form and function.
- Pearls aren’t just for your mother anymore; we saw a lot of them in new collections from LAGOS among others. It must have something to do with its abundance, prettiness, and affordability.
- Pendant necklaces are cute and one can layer a few pieces together to make a bold statement. For a variety of dresses, it’s one way of foolproof accessorizing. We saw a lot of them in the Max Azria collection this year.
- Recent years have focused on white gold, but yellow gold is making a comeback as well, as Elie Tahari and Roberto Cavalli made abundant use of pieces using the rich, vibrant colour. Combined with stones like beryl and quartz, the bright, sunny shade is perfect for spring. That and the fact that gold’s price has dropped down quite a bit, further reinforcing the new standard
Of course, nothing beats the classics. Diamond jewelry is still ranked as one of the most beautiful, timeless things a woman can wear no matter the season, making the price of this scintillating gem is well justified.
