It doesn’t matter what size business you are managing, telecommunication costs have been astronomical for years. Thankfully, we have VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol), which is changing all this. VOIP services have gone beyond just reducing ridiculous costs, they have brought about video and conference calling with ease and super-high standards. VOIP services are the only way for anyone in business to save money, and to be communicating at better levels. For example, you should be asking yourself how much you could be saving on your business mobile costs with VOIP services. For bigger companies, or those looking for super-secure, and super-high quality communications, dedicated and managed VOIP services are by far the best solution. Here is a look at some of the issues…

- So What is VOIP? VOIP used to mean calling and audio solutions over the internet. Now it means a whole lot more. VOIP has brought about video calling and other communication possibilities, including conference calling. For example, the most common consumer version of VOIP is Skype. Are you using Skype to make free video calls around the world? I can call to a land-line on the other side of the planet via Skype for cheaper than it costs to make a mobile call in my region.
- PBX is Dead. PBX or Private Business Exchange was the technology once used for larger corporations to manage and control their communications. Managed and Dedicated VOIP services have replaced those old systems. There is no actual exchange, there are dedicated servers to handle and manage our calls and other communication. VOIP is to PBX what the Concorde was to the bi-plane. The advantages are numerous.
- Reduced Upfront Costs. The installation and set-up of VOIP is much cheaper than old-fashioned PBX. There is not any physical PBX exchange box or other heavy-duty equipment. We don’t need to set up our phone and video system like we are building a telephone exchange for a small city. We don’t have to pay for the labour costs of days or weeks of installation.
- Flexibility. VOIP services are provided by software applications. This means if we want to change them, we just make changes with the application, or we simply select our preferences. This compares with the physical work needed on a tradition PBX system.
- Scalable. VOIP services are available for individuals to multinational corporations. Communications are via the internet, and that means we have eliminated distance.
- Security. By using dedicated servers for our VOIP services, we know we have complete security of our communications. Just as we want to keep our company, database and website secure, we can manage and secure our communications around the world. Add encryption to this, and even the USAF or the FBI will have trouble knowing what we are communicating about.
- Upgrades. As the improvements in VOIP continue, you know there is little to upgrade. We can only improve on our communication tools with upgrades of the software and improvements with the speeds of computers. Compare this with replacing the telephone system of a small town, and you can appreciate the difference.

All Things Consumers and Marketers Should Know About QR Codes

(Courtesy of Flickr User: techfun)
The Product
QR Codes (quick response codes) are 2D bar codes that are decodable by a QR Code reader from most modern smartphones. From their infancy in tracking auto parts, they have progressed into marketing tools for billboards, flyers, movie posters and promotional posters for any number of products.
Most of the modern cell phones feature a camera and internet connectivity for proper QR Code utilization. QR codes are now also referenced in business cards, artwork, newspaper ads and other standard marketing media. QR Codes are distinguishable from other 2D bar codes like Microsoft Tag (Tag), Datamatrix and ScanLife EZcode. For search purposes, QR Codes are vastly preferred over their competition.

2D Bar Code Advantages
2D bar codes have remarkable storage capacity. In addition to storing up to 7,089 numbers, they store email (send message), SMS/MMS messages, hyperlinks, telephone numbers (phone call), calendar entries (vCalendar) and Contact entries (vCard or meCard).
Hyperlinks alone, renowned for their versatility, add numerous possibilities: mobile apps can be downloaded, Foursquare can be accounted for, videos can be played, Twitter status updates, displayed map directions and a plethora of other functions.
To appreciate the revolutionary scale of the upgrade 2D represents, the traditional 1D bar code (UPC/EAN) has a 30 number storage capacity. Further, 2D can be vertically or horizontally scanned for decoding.
Reading and Generation
Reading 2D bar codes requires three tools: (1) a 2D bar code generator (Website service), (2) a 2d bar code reader (Mobile app) and (3) an optional 2D bar code management/tracking tool (Website service). Internet providers can help with the first and third tools.
The generator choice depends upon the options it provides. Among the factors for consideration are data storage (meCard, SMS, hyperlink, etc.), code format (EZ code, QR, Tag, etc.) and output (size, color, download file type, etc.)
Once the image is acquired, the bar code’s versatility is impressive. In bringing non-digital media to life, it can be printed on TV ads, clothing labels, billboards, newspapers, cake frosting and so forth. All that’s required is an easily scannable location.
Mobile Bar code scanning usage is escalating in a significant way. According to ScanLife’s 2010 Trend Report, QR Code scanning increased 1600% in 2010.

Bar Code Internet Use Advisory
Internet providers are advised to place bar codes judiciously. Make them user-friendly by not requiring traffic to scan a code when a hyperlink would suffice, e.g.
Indeed, customers should be rewarded for their enterprise in bar code scanning, which for many its novelty is an adventure in itself. Smartphone features should be leveraged within the experience to make it more user-friendly and time-saving, such as integrating it with video, maps, apps, email, cell phones phone call and SMS. Just make sure the accoutrements are mobile-friendly so that the purpose isn’t defeated.
Likewise, internet providers advertising tracking services would do well to utilize URL-shortener and web analytics. A more sophisticated bar code generator tool with tracking analytics is required for the more comprehensive metrics such as repeat scans, geo-locations and demographics.
Conclusion
In sum, the technological and practical advantages to QR Code use are at least four-fold:
• Abundance: there are over 53 million smartphone users in the U.S. alone and that is fast increasing.
• Free generation and use: a boon for merchandise, company letterheads, business cards and other promotional materials.
• Limitless length, space and size: there is virtually no end to the information that can be contained therein.
• Mobile access to the Internet is rapidly increasing: dramatic monthly access increases have been noted since the iPhone’s advent in 2007.
As the venerable football coach George Allen used to say, “The future is now.” For marketing, QR Codes help verify that assertion.

Despite the fact, we have internet and super-fast communications, we still have big offices full of people and busy roads during the morning and evening because workers are on the move. We have clients around the world we talk to on video calls through VOIP services and dedicated servers, and yet we still have three floors to accommodate our business operations. Why are so many people still going to work?
Have you ever thought of running your whole business from a business mobile, and dumping the office for a private location on some tropical island? Are you paying ridiculous rents, taxes, and other costs of living without thought for making a change? We have had the internet at our disposal for a number of years, and yet we still see so many companies with big offices, and most people go to work each day. Are you working like a fool, or is your company not taking advantage of modern technologies to save money and get more business done? In many cases, business owners and managers have not caught up with the times and the technology available. Is there real reason for us to be anywhere in business these days? How often do we really spend time with clients face to face anyway? Here is a look at some ways to reduce business costs, and free up ourselves, our people, and free up the limitations of businesses.
- Costs of Working. There are only two ways to make more profit. You either reduce your costs, or you increase your revenue. Reducing costs can often be easier than making more money. If one looks at what they do for a living, it can be possible to do the same work via the internet. If you are working for a particular company, have you considered talking with management about working from home? The cost of going to work is very expensive. You have dry cleaning, transport, car parking, bought coffee and food. You have the costs of makeup, treatments and the list of expenses just continues. How much can you save by changing the way you work.
- Location. Are you living in an expensive city, in an expensive region, in an expensive country? Are you paying ridiculous amounts of money just to get by? Moving to a cheaper country with lower costs of living, has become a realistic and sensible option, for many people. If you are working over the internet, all you really need is a stable internet connection, and you are in business. The cost of living in Lima, Peru, is about 1/3 of the cost of living in Sydney, for example. The standards are not that different, and for those who can adjust to living in another country and culture, there are many options available.
- VOIP. VOIP (Voice/Video Over Internet Protocol) business phone systems take advantage of high-speed internet connections and super-high speed dedicated servers and software to deliver internet-based communications. This is how those outsourced call centres can supply their services to you and you don’t even know. You are calling a local number in Australia, and you are actually talking with a representative, who is in the Philippines and is contracted by a call centre contracted by whoever you are calling. They are sitting in their own apartment in some small city miles away from the capital. You should be using VOIP business systems for your communications and more. There are so many ways to exploit VOIP for your business
Employers need to lift their game. Professionals need to think outside the box. We all should be looking at more offsite solutions when we work or employ. We save money, time, and we can do a whole lot more. Our society benefits from more flexible arrangements. Mothers with children do not need to be unemployed, for example. We produce less of a carbon footprint when we are working remotely. If the big banks are using these strategies to reduce costs, and yet they can still supply high-quality services and security, why can’t everyone else?

According to the 2006 Australian census, there were 105,000 homeless people in the country. Homeless services are continually overworked and underfunded and unfortunately cannot adequately provide for the many people who need them.
According to the 2006 Australian census, there were 105,000 homeless people in the country. Housing crises affect people from all walks of life. Women, children, men, indigenous people and mentally ill people are all at risk of homelessness, and domestic violence and family breakdown are the major reasons for housing distress. Homeless services are continually overworked and underfunded and unfortunately cannot adequately provide for the many people who need them.
- Indigenous People are at Risk of Homelessness
Indigenous people were 9.1% of the homeless population according to the census. Many Indigenous people in rural and urban Australia suffer from poverty. In 2002, 43 percent of indigenous households experienced days without money. However, their prime reason for seeking homeless services was domestic violence. Family abuse is a major reason for housing stress, and is inextricably linked to other factors such as poverty and education.
- Many Mentally Ill People are Homeless
Mentally ill people are overrepresented in figures on homelessness. People who suffer from mental illnesses have periods when they cannot cope with the tasks of everyday life. Some cannot hold regular employment during these periods and therefore fall behind in rent and suffer financial stress. The nature of mental illness also makes it difficult to regularly interact with government agencies which provide social welfare payments. For all these reasons, mentally ill people are at great risk of becoming homeless.
- Women and Family Breakdown
42 percent of homeless people in the 2006 census were women. Most of these women were victims of domestic violence. The causes of family abuse are complicated, but the victims are usually women. When women have children and are the primary care giver, domestic abuse causes not only physical and psychological side effects, but to loss of income and subsequent homelessness.
Older women are featuring more in homeless counts. The prime reason is the high cost of housing in Australia. In 2011, Australia had some of the highest priced housing in terms of rent and mortgage payments in the world. Vacancy rates are also very low. Older women are particularly at risk from these factors due to the nature of their work, often casual or part time, and their marital status, many are separated or divorced.
- Addictions can Cause Homelessness.
Many homeless people suffer from addictions such as drug, alcohol or gambling addictions. These problems cause financial stress and consequent family breakdown. Both influence homelessness. Addictions are also a barrier to seeking help from homeless services. They make it difficult for people to approach government agencies for fear of arrest or welfare interference.
- Unemployment Leads to Financial Stress.
Unemployed people are highly likely to be homeless. The level of welfare benefits have not kept up with the cost of housing in most of Australia’s big cities. Unemployed people have little chance of gaining a lease in a very competitive rental market and in many cases cannot maintain constant rental payments. For those with mortgages, unemployment means loss of shelter.
Homelessness affects people from many different walks of life and in many different circumstances. High risk factors for homelessness include unemployment, domestic violence, addiction and mental illness. Better targeting of programs to help people in these circumstances may reduce the level of homelessness in Australia.

You don’t need to be a professional to know when your sheets feel good, but it can be a difficult process to know when you are making a purchase. Some bed linen will feel good when you are in the store, and you will find out after using them, you are not comfortable at all. It is not that difficult to know a little more about linen, and this will help you to make a healthy purchase. We spend a lot of our lives in our beds, and that is why it is important we care about our mattress, our doona, our pillows, and our bed linen. In this article, we focus on what to look for when purchasing bed linen
- Natural Fibres. This is the number one rule when it comes to bed linen. We want 100% natural fibres because they allow our skin to breathe. Cotton should always be your choice. There is nothing better than cotton. Polyester may last much longer, but your skin will always know the difference.
- Finer Fibres. There are some technical terms in relation to the types of cotton that we should understand because not all cotton is the same. Cotton is generally classified into four categories. The categories are based on the appearance and length of the cotton. They are; extra-long, long, medium and short. The longer the thread the finer the fabric. For the highest quality of cotton bed linen you are looking for longer threaded cotton, which will have a silky-smooth feel and have better durability.
- Thread Count. Thread count is the number of threads per specific area, normally per inch or per centimetre. The higher the thread count, the finer the quality of the bed linen. The higher the thread count will mean your bed linen feels smoother and will also last longer. The opposite end of high-quality cotton thread is something like a burlap sack. The highest quality bed linen made in the USA has a thread count of 320, and we can consider bed linen to be of better quality when it has a thread count of 200 or more. Ask your retailer regarding the thread count of your bed linen before purchase. They should also be able to tell you the source of the cotton the sheets are made from. A good quality set of bed linen will actually have more shine and increase in softness after a number of washings. The opposite will happen with low quality sheets, which will actually be harder with more washing.
- The Hand. The ‘hand’ of bed linen actually refers to the way it feels. This will take some practice at getting used to. The best way to learn the difference is to compare the difference between high quality and low quality items while you are in a traditional retail store. It is only after some time, and knowing what you want, will you be able to judge the quality of cotton in this way. Those who are experienced can pick up a set of bed linen and just with the slight of their hand, they can tell you where the cotton is from, and what the thread count is.
Most of us spend about 8 hours a day in our bed, and that is only slightly less than we spend each day at work. Considering we sleep every day of our lives, it is extremely important we spend the money on quality bedding and quality bed linen. Spending on your bed linen is investment in your well-being.

Every designer knows this issue- The possibilities created by designs. A design is rarely “complete” in terms of its potentials in its early stages. The designer, looking at their creation, is often faced with a dilemma- What’s the best, simplest, and safest way to try out design options and innovations? The short answer is that modern industrial adhesives can provide a lot of low cost, quick and simple solutions to innovation issues.
Designs, issues, ideas and materials
At the CAD design and prototype stages, a lot of new information becomes available about products. Some of this information relates to problems, but a lot of it relates to things like assembly, costs and improvements. This can be quite an information load. If you’ve got one product and a whole range of options, ideas and issues, the need is to systematically address these situations.
Efficiency is required, because all of these situations need to be correlated and factored in to the design information and knowledge base. A lot of design issues are based on materials, for example. Assembly and cost analyses also get factored in at the coal face. The solutions and their ideas have to be tested and analyzed as well.
Best practice is to deal with each issue in turn. More often than not, design innovations are required to solve problems or eliminate issues affecting performance, cost or quality control issues. This is where the adhesives come into play.
For example:
Product A needs better assembly methods. The nuts and screws assembly of the prototype of Product A is costly, time consuming and includes a few stress point issues that affect structural design and require additional structures in the product. The problem is that the product includes metal and plastics, so the joins need to provide support at the meeting points of these two very different materials.
The solution is to use an adhesive to replace the mechanical joins. A structural adhesive is used to bond the metal and plastic, eliminating the stress points and providing full support to the joins. This means that the additional structures won’t be required in the new model, and major costs are avoided for the manufacturer. The use of adhesives also reduces the production time of the product considerably, since there’s no requirement for the time consuming mechanical joins.
Innovation and design
Design innovation can involve having a lot of ideas about a new product, sometimes too many, unless you can figure out a way of testing them cheaply and efficiently. Everything from performance to different ways of using the product and product additions may be involved at this point, and to do things efficiently you need efficient methods.
An industrial adhesive can be used for any kind of assembly. All you need is the right adhesive. In some cases, a basic instant adhesive may be all you need to add a design element to a product for testing and development of the new idea. Using adhesives, you can literally create multiple new designs, even a “collage” of design ideas, quickly and simply.
If you’re stuck for a method of checking out your design ideas, try adhesives. You’ll be surprised.

Most people are used to buying online, but many don’t realize what’s it’s possible to buy, or how easy it is to buy big ticket items, things like washing machines and other major appliances. The fact is that you can get big brand name machines a lot cheaper online, and without the hassle of “normal” buying.
The washing machines are a good example of the very high values you can get buying online. The new ranges from famous brands like Westinghouse, Electrolux, LG and other big names are a good case study in saving money for consumers. You really can save hundreds of dollars, quite easily, with a few clicks.
The online approach is particularly good for people upgrading their older machines. You can go from an old model to the latest model, getting the energy and water saving features with the new machines. This is another type of money saving, and it illustrates the value of keeping an eye on what’s available. Your old machine, if it’s over ten years old, will sooner or later require servicing. It can actually be cheaper to buy a new machine, and parts for older models are sometimes hard to get, unless you’ve got a major brand service available.
The new washing machines
The new machines are all electronic, and they’re also heavy duty washers. The cheapest models on the market start from around $300-400, and they include front loaders, twin tubs and top loaders. Depending on your preferences, you can snap up a current model in any range you like for these prices. They’ll do the job and do it well, and they’ve got good warranties when you’re buying a name brand.
The mid-range washers are only about $100-$200 more expensive, and they’re the ones with the energy and water saving features. They pay for that extra price in about a year or two on water and power bills. These washers have a wide range of electronic features, and are good for managing larger complex loads like family clothes where you need to watch the wash settings.
The top of the range washing machines are very much state of the art, with even more electronic features, options like steam washing and include the washer/dryers. These machines can be expensive, but they’re also energy and water savers, and the average price of the upper range, which starts at about $1500 and goes up to $2400 or so isn’t a bank-breaker, particularly if you consider that these products have warranties of up to 10 years on labour, and 5 years on parts.
For consumers, buying these appliances online starts with saving money and improving household amenities. A good washing machine is a good investment in hygiene and time saving, so you’ll find that your money is being put to work very efficiently. Add to this the simplicity of buying online and getting a markdown on normal retail, and they’re very good investments, any way you look at it. This is the true value of online shopping.
