The 158th Ohio State Fair Annual begin this week, and offers a wide variety of entertainment options for children, adults and everyone else. If you’re on the fence to attend, then you want to read the list we have compiled of why you have to spend some time at the fair in the summer.
1. Liquor – Beer and wine is already out of the Ohio State Fair 2011, but this year both will be a new addition. You are not allowed to bring beer around in many areas, but the tastings are available for the Taste of Ohio Coffee and drinks are available in a couple of concerts as well.
2. Knowing the typical tactics of an abuser will help you identify those who are victims and those who are the perpetrators of domestic violence around you.
The problem of domestic violence continues to haunt our societies. Domestic violence knows no borders, and it is more common than many people think. Some people live in domestic violence for many years without knowing anything else. Domestic violence is not limited to age, sex or relationship. Discovering one is in an abusive relationship can be one of the most trying times of their lives. In this article, we look at some of the typical tactics that abusers use on their victims.
- Control. Abusers are those who want to be in control over their relationships with others. That could be a husband, a mother or a child. They push others into doing what they want. They treat others in a relationship with them as a possession. Dominance is a tactic used by abusers.
- Shame. The victim in all domestic violence are forced into feeling they are worthless. An abuser will continually repeat to them how useless they are. This can affect the most confident of people. A flower will not grow without water. People are the same. If they are continually humiliated, they will begin to feel they have no value. This is a major strategy of the abuser.
- Threats. Threats of violence are as dangerous as the violence itself. Violence is not limited to physical violence either. Emotional and financial domestic violence are used to threaten victims. The fear of these threats is the main reason why someone will stay in such a relationship for a long time. If anyone thinks these people really want to stay, they are greatly mistaken.
- Isolation. Whether it be forcing an individual to stay at home, limit their relationships with other people, or control them by limiting their finances, isolation is another main strategy of an abuser. They do not allow their victim access to the rest of the world because they know that keeping them alone keeps them weak.
- Intimidation. Intimidation is another form of threat. It is designed to insight fear into a victim. This can be done without words, and abusers are normally very good at it. They can use a simple look of their eyes to intimidate their victim. They will often use these tactics in public so others cannot see.
- Blame. An abuser will always blame their victim. They are in complete denial of what they are doing and the victim can replicate their attitude by eventually taking on the blame themselves. Much like humiliation and shame, and individual that is constantly treated in a particular way will begin to believe it themselves. Blame and denial created by the abuser, normally shape the victim with similar beliefs.
If you can do nothing but donate to a charity, such as the purchase of Christmas cards that benefit those who are being abused, you are at least making a change. Domestic violence is alive and well. Helping those in such situations is a very difficult task, even for the professionals. Being aware of domestic violence is the first step to eliminating it.

When pregnant, it seems all your energy has been sucked out of you! But you can get some back. Read on to find out how.
These days, it is not uncommon for a woman with a young child, to also have a baby on the way. It means your kids will be closer in age, and so will connect more and have a greater bond, and also that your child bearing is done in one hit and you can return to your career. But it can also mean that you will be exhausted. Doesn’t the idea of chasing around a toddler, constantly playing toys, and doing chores, while managing third trimester just make you tired thinking about it?
While you are never going to beat exhaustion in your pregnancy, you can manage it and also work on increasing you energy levels so you don’t hit the bed every night feeling like you never want to get out of it. A lot of women feel they need to keep going at the same pace and doing the same amount of activities during their pregnancy, only slightly slowing down towards the last few months. There is also the pressure to be organised, get hubby ready to look after the other kids while you’re in hospital or out of action, and have everything purchased that you need for the new baby.
So how can you manage all of this and still have the energy to keep your head up at the end of the day? Try these:
1. Sleep
Don’t be afraid to give in and have a nap or a sleep. Remember though, your body still has some similarities to your non-pregnant state – if you sleep too much you get even more tired. Recognise you need more sleep, and start going to bed a little earlier at night. Combine this with an afternoon nap – even if it’s with your toddler – so you have the energy to tackle the evening.
2. Diet
What you eat is really important. Sure, given your growth, pregnancy is a good opportunity to nibble on those things you wouldn’t usually if you were watching your figure. But this doesn’t mean you should change your whole diet. Maintain a carefully balanced diet that includes a lot of nutrients and also energy providers. At the same time, remember not to eat a lot of heavy foods that will sit on your stomach and make you feel tired and lethargic!
3. Exercise
While your exercise regime will have to change during pregnancy, it doesn’t have to disappear. Change your exercise of choice to something that specifically caters for your condition. Perhaps yoga for pregnant women, or even just sitting on the exercise bike while you watch television. Surprisingly, exercise will add to your energy and endurance levels. Maternity wear shops stock a range of supporting exercise gear that will make you feel more comfortable when doing a light workout.
4. Supplement
If you’re not getting all the energy and vitamins you need from your diet, talk to your doctor about upping the intake through supplements and vitamins. Remember what you take your baby does too, so you need doc’s permission. Some brands crate a special pregnancy multi-vitamin, this should give you a lot of what you need, and when combined with a little exercise, diet and some good sleep – you will find yourself able to run around for longer!

This article explains how hair is harvested and transplanted during a replacement procedure.
Hair transplant is all the rage these days: celebrities do it to look younger and more confident, and so are thousands of ordinary men around the world. So if you’ve been considering undergoing hair transplant surgery to return your head to its former glory, you might be wondering what the surgery entails. Here’s a short overview of the different hair transplant techniques and what happens during a hair transplant surgery.
How they extract your hair
Hair transplant consists of moving hair from one part of the body to another (usually the scalp). So in the first step, the surgeon has to harvest hair from another area of your body in one of two ways:
Strip harvesting
In strip harvesting, a strip of skin (usually scalp) is cut away under local anesthesia. The surgeon then stiches the area and cuts the strip into smaller units that will be transplanted onto the thinning area of the patient’s head.
This technique can cause scarring in the donor area, but can generally be covered up by hair if it’s reasonably long. It takes about two weeks to heal and the stitches are finally removed by someone from the hair transplant clinic.
Follicular Unit Extraction (or FUE)
This technique, although more complex than strip harvesting, minimizes the scarring and recovery time. In FUE harvesting, the surgeon removes individual follicles with punches between 0.6mm and 1.25mm in diameter. One by one, the removed follicles are then reinserted through a tiny insertion in the thinning area.
This technique requires no sutures and only small, punctate scars are left on the scalp. These scars are minimally visible and easily hidden by the remaining hair. Recovery is reduced to one week and no post-surgery stitch removal is required.
What happens during the procedure
After pre-surgery appointments with the surgeon during which he or she analyzes your scalp and discusses solutions, expectations and possible results, an appointment is made for surgery.
Several days before surgery, the patient must refrain from taking any medicine that can worsen intraoperative bleeding; alcohol and smoking can also contribute to the failing of the grafting procedure.
On the day of surgery, the patient is given a mild sedative and/or local anesthesia. Technicians wash the scalp with an antibacterial shampoo to minimize any risk of infection.
The scalp is then harvested through either strip harvesting or FUE. The surgeon prepares the grafting site and leaves technicians to put the actual grafts into place on the patient’s head.
What happens after the procedure?
After the hair transplant, there will be some bleeding and fluid seepage. The patient must change his or her dressings daily until the wounds have healed. The patient can wash his or her hair about two days after surgery; this prevents scabs from forming around the hair shaft.
Most of the transplanted hair will fall out during the first week or so after surgery. However, the transplanted follicles remain and will eventually grow new hair after two or three months.
