Sumatran Rare Tiger Kills Indonesian Man

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — A rare Sumatran tiger dragged a man from a hut in an Indonesian village and broke his neck as friends tried to rescue the victim, an official said Monday. The 26-year-old man, identified as Darmilus, was attacked Sunday while he and seven friends were resting in a makeshift hut in Seponjen village near the protected Berbak National Park, a known tiger habitat.

Darmilus was lying closest to the door when the tiger grabbed him and dragged him outside, said Nurazman, an official with Jambi Province conservation agency. His friends managed to pursue and fought to release him from the tiger’s grip.  “The tiger finally ran away but had wounded the victim on his head and neck,” killing him, said Nurazman, who uses a single name.

Local authorities are investigating why the friends, who were on a fishing trip, were camping so close to the park.  The Sumatran tiger is the most endangered tiger subspecies in the world, largely because of poaching and the destruction of their forest habitat for palm oil and wood pulp plantations. The government says only about 250 of them are left in the wild.

why there is many holes on the cheese?

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Cheese is one of the dairy products the most important and much is consumed. It is estimated there are more than 3000 kinds of cheese in the world, who come from French, German, Dutch, Danish, Swiss, Italy, United Kingdom, United States, and European countries other. Many yes! but had not kmu nemuin cheese holes in the clay we used in the drawings or in cartoons movies?

Well .. this is story why cheese can be perforated cheese:
cheese holes in the swiss common cause of these holes propioni because bacteria are bacteria commonly found on sawn cheese, Limburger and Liderkanz. Propioni bacteria provide a sweet taste and juicy on the cheese. Cheeses made from acidified milk. Pickling process was aided by yeast and bacteria. When the cheese through the preservation, bacteria such propioni out of gas. Gas bubbles formed this round holes in Swiss cheese.

Because of these holes, Swiss cheese so unique and distinctive Several other types of cheese have a special form and its own sense of a particular fungus. Blue veins that appear on Roquefort cheese is caused by the fungus Penicillium roquefortii. This fungus makes the cheese surface was slippery. Cheese was covered with white mushrooms Camemberti called Penicillium camemberti gray. This fungus causes the color to yellowish.

Cheese History
The existence of cheese begins when a shepherd found a dairy cow which he kept in a goat-skin bag, frozen and fermented when left in the cave. A hungry man had eaten milk lumps and liked it. Since then deliberately fermented milk to produce food which we know as cheese. Once upon a time the farmers to save the remaining milk and let it clot. After that, lump pounded cheese using tree stems, wrapped, and crushed with stones as he left to dry in the sun. To give a sense, cheese and then sprinkled with salt. In the 20th century, the industrialists had to change the traditional way. They introduce many new types of rich cheese flavor. Cheese including high protein nutritional value. Cheese is also a great energy. It contains calcium and phosphorus, especially cheeses cooked. Cheese is very good to replace the milk, especially for those who do not like milk …

tips to stop global warming

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

what is global warming? in simple way we could say that global warming are a global disaster that caused by human. human are unwise using an energy especilly carbon fuel heating the earth temperature increasing the sea level.

here a few simple tips to stop global warming :

  1. Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl)
CFLs use 60% less energy than a regular bulb. This simple switch will save about 300 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
We recommend you purchase your CFL bulbs at 1000bulbs.com, they have great deals on both screw-in and plug-in light bulbs.
  2. Install a programmable thermostat
Programmable thermostats will automatically lower the heat or air conditioning at night and raise them again in the morning. They can save you $100 a year on your energy bill.
  3. Move your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer
Almost half of the energy we use in our homes goes to heating and cooling. You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple adjustment.
  4. Clean or replace filters on your furnace and air conditioner
Cleaning a dirty air filter can save 350 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
  5. Choose energy efficient appliances when making new purchases
Look for the Energy Star label on new appliances to choose the most energy efficient products available.
  6. Do not leave appliances on standby
Use the “on/off” function on the machine itself. A TV set that’s switched on for 3 hours a day (the average time Europeans spend watching TV) and in standby mode during the remaining 21 hours uses about 40% of its energy in standby mode.
  7. Wrap your water heater in an insulation blanket
You’ll save 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple action. You can save another 550 pounds per year by setting the thermostat no higher than 50°C.
  8. Move your fridge and freezer
Placing them next to the cooker or boiler consumes much more energy than if they were standing on their own. For example, if you put them in a hot cellar room where the room temperature is 30-35ºC, energy use is almost double and causes an extra 160kg of CO2 emissions for fridges per year and 320kg for freezers.
  9. Defrost old fridges and freezers regularly
Even better is to replace them with newer models, which all have automatic defrost cycles and are generally up to two times more energy-efficient than their predecessors.
  10. Don’t let heat escape from your house over a long period
When airing your house, open the windows for only a few minutes. If you leave a small opening all day long, the energy needed to keep it warm inside during six cold months (10ºC or less outside temperature) would result in almost 1 ton of CO2 emissions.

movie reviews

Sunday, March 21st, 2010
The American Film Market is in full swing at present, giving international buyers the opportunity to scope out the new movies for which they might like to fork over some of their copious wealth. And as part of the buyer-seduction process, many of the folks behind the available flicks have put out fresh stills of their projects, which in turn gives us little people a glimpse into the filmic future.

Mark Wahlberg

In addition to a full range of snapshots, Collider is also carrying extensive story information about many of these just-finished and not-quite-finished-yet movies, but here is just a wee small smattering of some of the more intriguing films to stick their heads above the AFM parapet (er, and Piranha 3D as well).

After his alleged dust-up with George Clooney on the set of Three Kings, and his hit YouTube critique of Lily Tomlin during the making of I Heart Huckabees, we can only guess as to what crazy antics director David O. Russell has been getting up to with stars Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale on The Fighter. Luckily, as the title suggests, the film is about boxing (specifically the life of pugilist ‘Irish’ Micky Ward, played by Wahlberg), so those boys have opportunity to work out all their aggression inside the ring.

George Clooney.

Following on from his acclaimed Ian Curtis biopic Control, Anton Corbijn has been working on The American, starring Clooney as a disillusioned assassin who agrees to take one last job in Italy. The provided picture shows a concerned-looking Clooney wielding his sniper rifle, striking a deft balance between sensitive new man and cold-blooded maniac.

Channing Tatum.

The Eagle of the Ninth appears an unusual movie for Kevin McDonald to follow up politico-thriller State of Play with, being based on a 1950s kids’ adventure book set in Roman-occupied Britain – though with six ensuing volumes, there is franchise potential aplenty. Channing Tatum stars as a Roman Centurion named Marcus Aquila, and indeed – if we temporarily put aside any semblance of common sense – why shouldn’t he?

John Cusack.

Shanghai is a thriller set in the eponymous city on the eve of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. John Cusack’s secret agent hits town to investigate the murder of his best pal, and finds himself involved with local spook Ken Watanabe and gangster’s wife Gong Li. Cusack’s 1408 director Mikael Håfstrom was the man tasked with shouting “Action!” and “Cut!”.

Still from Piranha 3D.

And finally, the one we’ve all been waiting for, Piranha 3D. Confusingly, this offering from Hills Have Eyes director Alexandre Aja is the fourth, rather than the third bearing the Piranha title, and is in fact a second remake of the 1978 Joe Dante-helmed first one. Is that clear? About as clear as a lake filled with the blood of some catalogue-model-cute bathers! More than three decades after Jaws, a cameoing Richard Dreyfuss dares to go back into the water.

how to survive in the jungle

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Ok, ok, we know what you’re thinking. You’re sat in a chair, staring at a computer. The jungles of the Amazon are thousands of miles away and all you have is your imagination. But for whatever reason, have you ever wondered what would happen if you were lost there? With nothing but walls of foliage and sounds of the undergrowth, it’s not hard to see why on many an occasion it has tested man’s ability to the limit. So from the downright obvious, to the slightly more obscure, we present 19 tips to survive if you’re lost in the jungle.

Orientation in the jungle

1. First, you should figure out where you came from and trace it back to a recognizable travel trail. Of course a map, a compass and a GPS unit would probably solve your problem much easier.

If you’re not part of a group and making noise would only attract animals you’ll have to pick a direction and stick to it. Head downhill to find a water stream, then follow it until it becomes a river, which will lead you out of the jungle. Choose the direction of travel wisely and if it turns out to be bad, quickly come up with a new plan.

2. With low visibility, you may need to rise above the canopy by heading part-way up a hill or ridge to get your bearings. A slight depression in the jungle where one side is higher than the other suggests there could be a river so go ahead and follow it. The wider the river, the more chances you have to find civilization.

Dangers in the jungle

3. Falling trees and branches are the biggest killers of people in the jungle. Therefore you need to choose your night camp on clear grounds and away from trees. Stay alert, move slowly and steadily through the dense jungle and stop periodically to listen and take your bearings.

4. Protect yourself from mosquitoes. Malaria has caused more deaths than all the wars in history combined and if you’re unlucky in the jungle, you might catch it too. In the jungle, using mosquito nets are the best way to prevent you from being bitten.

If you don’t have a net, other options include sap from a camphor tree or eucalyptus oil. However, don’t count on them too much.

5. Keep your footwear and your clothes on you, when you get into the water. Currents, submerged branches that can pull you under, crocodiles, leeches, electric eels, anacondas, piranhas and stingrays, are common in the waters of the jungle. Tread with caution. Jungles are extremely dangerous places.

6. You’ll have to resist the heat and keep your clothes on you. Excessive amounts of sun could lead to sunstroke, sunburn, heatstroke and dehydration. You should protect your head and neck from direct sunlight, drink plenty of water.

7. A machete and a knife always come in handy to cut through the vegetation or to build a shelter where you can stay dry and get some rest at night. Don’t cut unnecessarily and conserve your energy. Also, make sure you don’t make too much noise when you cut, because sound carries long distances in the jungle and wild animals like jaguars may track you down. (more…)

how to decorate a cake

So You Want to Learn How to Decorate a Cake

Cake decorating can be a great hobby! You can begin with minimal expense and you get to eat what you create. What could be more fun? Once you start, though, realize that it will be hard to stop. And if you get really good at it, don’t be surprised if your friends start asking you to create cakes for them. There truly is nothing like a good homemade cake.

Basic Steps for a Perfect Cake

Learning just a few basics can make decorating a cake easy and enjoyable. Following are the steps to creating a decorated cake with some tips to help you as you begin. You don’t need to have a ton of cake decorating supplies to create this, just some basic pans, a spatula, a pastry bag, and basic metal decorating tips.

  1. Bake a flat cake in a pan that’s been prepared with oil and flour. Getting a flat cake easier said than done. While tapping your cake pan on the counter will help get rid of some of the excess air, you will want to insulate the cake pan for the best result. There are a couple of ways to do this. One is to get insulated strips from your local supply store and wrap these around your pan fastened with a pin. The cheaper method is to use towels rolled up around the outside of the pan. Either method helps make sure that the cake bakes evenly.
  2. Use a long thin knife or cake leveler to create a flat, flat cake top before taking it out of the pan.
  3. Let the cake cool 10-15 minutes and then remove from the pan.
  4. Each layer should be iced “upside-down.” In other words you are icing the bottom of the cake in order to get the flattest and cleanest cake possible. If you are making a cake for an important occasion like a wedding, you can also freeze each layer to make it easier to ice.
  5. To ice the cake, the main rule to remember is “Don’t be afraid to use a lot of icing!” Cover the sides and the top with a LOT of icing. Using an offset spatula (if available) spread the icing in one direction. For example, work from the center to the outer edges, picking up the spatula and starting in a new spot – do not just rub it back and forth because this will pick up crumbs. Work the icing until the sides are are smooth and the top is flat. If you place your spatula in hot water and then dry it so that it is slightly heated before finishing the smoothing portion of the cake, you will achieve a smoother finish.
  6. Decorate the cake. Remember that you should not pipe your border until the center of the cake has been decorated. You can make simple flowers by using a star tip, squeezing and lifting up. You can also use a stencil layed over the cake with colored sugar to create a pretty cake with little effort. Then put leaves on each flower with a leaf tip.
  7. Write on your cake if so desired. If you add 1 tsp. of corn syrup for each 1/2 cup of buttercream icing your writing will appear smoother.
  8. Put a border around your cake. You can use the classic star tip, leaf tip no. 70, or rose tip no. 104 in a zigzag fashion. To truly make your cake special, do a border around the bottom of the cake to. Begin and end at the back of the cake to hide the seam.

Obviously, cake decorating is not only a practice but also an art. Ideas can come from many different places. You can also check out our cake decorating ideas, birthday cake ideas and our wedding cake ideas to provide you with inspiration. Remember, too, that even if you are weak on your icing decorating skills, you can also add edible flowers or of course wedding cake toppers to finish with style.

nigella sativa a herbal medicine for all desease except death

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Nigela Sativa can be compared to Echinacea, the well known immune booster but works in a very different way, which makes it even suitable for diseases of the immune system itself, eg. allergies; MS; TB; cancer; aids etc, where Echinacea could have detrimental effects.

The oil of nigella sativa is so beneficial due to it’s content of over a hundred components such as aromatic oils, trace elements, vitamins and enzymes. It contains 58% of essential fatty acids including omega 6 and omega 3. These are necessary for the forming of Prostaglandin E1 which balances and strengthens the immune system giving it the power to prevent infections and allergies and control cronic illnesses. Healthy cells are protected from viruses thus inhibiting tumours. Blackseed oil also contains about 0.5 – 1.5% volatile oils including nigellone and thymochinone which are responsible for its anti-histamine, anti-oxidant, anti-infective and broncho-dilating effect.

As an oil it is digested through the lymphatics consequently purifying and unblocking the lymphatic system.

Nigella Sativa oil was found in Tutankhamen’s tomb. It is known to have been used by Cleopatra for it’s health and beauty giving qualities.

The Greek physician Dioskorides used Blackseed to treat headaches, nasal congestion, toothache and intestinal parasites. Hypocrates, the grandfather of todays scientific medicine regarded Nigella Sativa as a valuable remedy in hepatic and digestive disorders.

Ibn Sina, the author of the Canon of Medicine, one of the most famous books in the history of medicine recommends Blackseed stimulates the metabolism and to recover from dispiritedness and lethargy.

Ayurvedic medicine appreciates its many qualities and bitter, warming, stimulant nature. Here it is used or a wide variety of diseases like haemorrhoids, hepatitis, fever, diarrhoea, cough, tapeworm, to mention only a few of them.

The earliest written reference to Blackseed is found in the book of Isiah in the Old Testament 28:25-27. It is most famous for the saying of the holy prophet Muhammad (sws), ‘Hold on to use of the Blackseed, for it has a remedy for every illness except death.’ The wording ‘hold onto’ indicates a long term use.

Since 1959 there have been over 200 different studies at universities and laboratories. At the Cancer Research Laboratory of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, USA, one of the largest experimental studies so far proved that Nigella Sativa oil had enormous success in tumour therapy without the negative side effects of common chemo-therapy. They found that it increased the growth rate of bone marrow cells by a staggering 250% and it inhibited tumour growth by 50%. It stimulated immune cells and raised the interferon production which protect cells from the cell destroying effect of viruses. They confirmed the strongly anti-bacterial and anti-micotic effects and that it has an effect in lowering the blood sugar level which is essential for the treatment of diabetes.

Recently independent clinical studies published in the archives of Aids also established some astonishing effects of blackseed on the defence system by improving the ration between helper t-cells and suppresser t-cells by a significant amount while also enhancing the natural killer cell activity.

Experiences of doctors in Munich displayed that 70% of patients with allergic conditions, among them being pollen and dust allergies, asthma and neuro-dermitis were cured by Nigella Sativa.
